Tori Bowie claimed the 100-metre world title for the US as Jamaican Olympic champion Elaine Thompson failed to medal – the day after Justin Gatlin had also won the men’s race for the Americans. Bowie got her first major title in 10.86 seconds, dipping across the line one- hundredth of a second ahead of Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou at the world championships in London.
