Host country Kuwait will take on Saudi Arabia in the opening of the 23rd Gulf Football Cup on December 22.
Football (FIFA) Gianni Infantino said Friday he was very happy and encouraged to welcome Kuwaiti football back into the international football community and that he would attend Gulf Cup in Kuwait.
He expressed his gratitude to the teams of Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen for participating in this tournament.
The 2017 Gulf Cup will be a great celebration of football in the whole region and to have all eight teams participating in Kuwait sends a very powerful message to the world,” he said “To mark this special occasion, it will be a great honour for me to attend the opening games of the 2017 Gulf Cup in Kuwait on 22 and 23 December.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino arrived here on Wednesday with a letter regarding lifting the suspension on Kuwaiti football .In a statement, Kuwait Football Association said the visit aims at lifting the suspension of Kuwaiti football, including a tour to sports facilities.
Infantino was received at Kuwait International airport by Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Minister of Trade and Industry and Acting Minister of Youth Affairs Khaled Al-Roudhan.
Last Sunday, the Kuwaiti parliament agreed to amend sports laws during a special two sessions.
The first round of voting on these amendments were 44 members agree, three disagree, and one abstention out of 48 members. In the second session, 47 members voted in favor, three disagree and one abstained out of 51 members of parliament.
