A Malaysia Airlines flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur has been forced to make an emergency landing in of Alice Springs Town in Australia.
Flight MH-122 departed Sydney at 1.06pm and was en route to Kuala Lumper in Malaysia when the crew reported a problem with an engine. There were 224 passengers on board. The jet landed at 4.38pm and came to a safe stop on the runway where it was met by emergency crews.

Leaders of countries in South-east Asia on Thursday reacted strongly to US President Donald Trump’s controversial decision to reverse a decades-old American policy and recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“I call on all Muslims across the world to let your voices be heard, make it clear that we strongly oppose any recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital for all time,” said Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak in his speech at an annual gathering of ruling party Umno in Kuala Lumpur.
His comments follow a statement by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry warning that the move by Mr Trump could result in grave repercussions toward the security and stability of the region, making efforts to combat terrorism all the more difficult.
Indonesian president Joko Widodo on Thursday condemned the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, reported newswire agency Reuters.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the United States’ unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and asks the US to reconsider the decision,” Mr Widodo told a news conference in Bogor. “This can rock global security and stability,” he said.

Pakistan shares the international outrage and is deeply concerned over the implications of this decision for international peace and security, especially in the Middle East. Pakistan calls upon the UN Security Council to take cognizance of this situation and take steps in accordance with the UN Charter,” the Pakistan Foreign Ministry’s statement said. Recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital “will not advance US national interests. Nor will it further efforts to secure peace in the Middle East, China said.
A Malaysia Airlines flight from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur has been forced to turn back after a passenger tried to enter the cockpit while threatening to “blow up” the plane. A spokesperson for the airline said the incident was caused by a “disruptive passenger” who was later arrested, saying the Sri Lankan national appeared to be drunk.
